Bret Michaels defends working with Miley Cyrus

Posted in News on December 23rd, 2009

Poison frontman Bret Michaels has defended working with 17-year-old Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus on a cover of his band’s classic ballad, Every Rose Has Its Thorn.

“It was really, really simple,” Michaels told MTV. “I think her first concert was Poison. She saw us at Nashville at the arena. It was her introduction into rock ‘n’ roll.

“She’s one of the few musicians, and I want to use that word cause she can actually play and sing,” he added. “She’s one of the few people who can pull it off and give it her own flair and make it sound good. She got in there and picked the guitar up. It was one of those nights that just worked. It was fun. It’s gotta be her taking Every Rose… and making it all hers.”

“I think it is such a rad collaboration because it shows that two artists that seem so different on the outside can come together and organically create something that we are both proud of,” said Cyrus in a post on her blog.

“Bret and I had a great time in the studio together just hanging out and making music,” she added. “It was so surreal to have him sit down with his acoustic guitar and walk me through Every Rose… and then give me the opportunity to add my own flair and edge to it.”

The collaboration will be released as a single early next year.

Pete Wentz joins ex-Chiodos man’s new band!

Posted in News on December 7th, 2009

After announcing their hiatus in October, it seems the members of Fall Out Boy are wasting no time in getting started on new projects.

While guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley have teamed up with Every Time I Die frontman Keith Buckley and Anthrax guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano for a heavy metal side-project called The Damned Things, it seems Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz is also pimping himself out and is reportedly collaborating with ex-Chiodos frontman Craig Owens.

The pair have been having quite a bromance via their Twitter pages, culminating in Wentzy joining Owens’ new band, Cinematic Sunrise, on stage last night at their gig at the Chain Reaction club in Anaheim, California.

“Cinematic Sunrise show tonight in Anaheim @ Chain. Surprises: Nash Breen(ArmorForSleep) on drums & a cute dark haired emo kid on bass + ??!?” wrote Owens on his Twitter page shortly before the show.

After the gig, Owens posted this picture of him and Wentzy enjoying a glass of champagne with the caption “Here’s to the future.”

Stay tuned to Kerrang! Dot Com and we’ll keep you posted with any official announcements.

Every Time I Die and Weezer in bus crash!

Posted in News on December 7th, 2009

Buffalo hardcore quintet Every Time I Die were involved in a bus crash en route to Wiesbaden, Germany earlier this evening (December 7). We are happy to report that no-one was injured.

“Bus is totalled,” writes frontman Keith Buckley in a post on Twitter. “Everyone is OK. We even managed to salvage some beers. We’ll post pics of the wreck soon.”

The band will rejoin the Taste Of Chaos tour – featuring Killswitch Engage and In Flames – in Munich tomorrow.

In other news, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was injured in a bus crash yesterday when the vehicle carrying him, his wife, his baby daughter and his PA veered off the road 40 miles west of Albany, New York state. He is currently being treated for cracked ribs and internal injuries.
