The End of Stevens Untitled Rock Show?!?!

Posted in News on December 28th, 2008

Every weeknight at 4PM EST for the past two or three years, punk/emo/indie/alternative/etc. rock kids across the nation have tuned in to FUSE for Steven’s Untitled Rock Show where host (and avid rock music fan) Steven Smith dished some of the scoop on their favorite bands and favorite tours from the comfort of a lovely couch (and other times from the field on tour or at a show). Yet sadly, in an unexpected turn of events, after 701 episodes, SURS will not been renewed for a new season in 2009. That’s right, the rock show is coming to an end.

Andrew the Intern made a MySpace bulletin announcement earlier today:

Good evening Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you all that production on SURS has ceased as of this week. We got word yesterday that we won’t be coming back next year, and this came as a shock and disappointment to all after an incredible 701-episode run.

Please tune in Monday, Tuesday (#700!) and Wednesday next week to catch the final three Rock Shows. Since you’ll hopefully be off for the holidays maybe you can even watch us when we actually air, at 2:00pm (I know, right?!). Perhaps the saddest thing about all this is that we didn’t know when we taped them that they would be our last, so Steven will tell you on Wednesday that we’ll be back in January after a hiatus. Don’t listen to him, we sadly will not. On the bright side I know that several of you will win phones so watch for that reason if no other :) I want these to be the 3 highest rated episodes of any show, ever.

Fuse lives on of course, and you’ll still be able to catch Steven on #1 Countdown and probably a new show or two as well. This page will stay up as a monument to all of you and your massive support for this show. I’ll probably check in from time to time and I’m sure Esteban will too. Thank you so much for all your messages, questions and texts over the years (or “Thnks fr th mmrs,” as I understand the kids say these days). You Are The Coolest Fans In Television, and you were what made this the best show to work on. I bet Oprah doesn’t even have 66,656 friends on myspace. Heck, I bet Fran Drescher doesn’t.

Courage,
Andrew the Intern the PA

With Total Finale Live earlier this year, is the age of music television is coming to an end?

30 Seconds To Mars: “Record companies want bands to work for free”

Posted in News on December 7th, 2008

Despite being sued by their record label, Virgin/EMI for a reported $30 million, 30 Seconds To Mars have begun work on the follow-up to their 2005 breakthrough album A Beautiful Lie with producer Flood (Depeche Mode,, U2, Nine Inch Nails).

However, because of the law suit, frontman Jared Leto has warned fans not to expect it any time soon.

Speaking to MTV News, he said: ”It’s all about fairness. It’s about companies treating artists fairly. It’s an age-old debate and, unfortunately, it will probably continue into the distant future. Record companies - and in particular, EMI - want their bands to work for free. They want their bands to work for slave wages. We would do this for free, because we love doing this - but there’s a principle there.”

“We feel really confident that this is the right thing to do - to confront this and not shy away, not to be scared, to challenge the status quo,” he continued. “The great news is the music is better than ever. We’re making the best album we’ve ever done.”

Green Day to record power pop album!

Posted in News on December 7th, 2008

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has hinted that the follow-up to their multi-million selling 2004 release American Idiot could be a power-pop album. “I really like fucking with arrangements and I always try to look at the possibilities of how you write power-pop music,” Armstrong told US magazine Alternative Press. “You know, it’s like, how do you take something and try to expand on the idea of what is supposed to be three-chord mayhem? I’m pushing myself to be progressive in songwriting and being a songwriter.”

The band are currently holed up in a Los Angeles studio with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Garbage, Against Me!). Armstrong revealed that the songwriting is proving to be a “painstaking process”.

“I’m allowing time for the process to happen naturally without having to force it,” Armstrong told AP. “That is a painstaking process, let me tell you! For a bunch of guys that are ADHD [Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder], it’s hard to have patience!”

The as-yet-untitled album will be released next summer.

Paramore Ready To Go Home and Record Next Album!

Posted in News on December 7th, 2008

Despite how much and how often Paramore is pumped for info about their Riot follow up, they’re still declaring that it’s in the earliest of all possible stages. The only bit of info they’ve fed out since last month, when Josh Farro told Rock Sound that they had eight to ten “ideas,” is that they’re going to familiar grounds to make this musical magic happen.
