Good Charlotte to Write Blink-182 Inspired Fifth Record
Good Charlotte fans who were displeased with their last effort, 2006′s Good Morning Revival, will be psyched to hear that the band will not be making another dance-rock album. Instead, they will be channeling a ‘Blink182-esque’ sound for their fifth full-length.
“I hate when [people ask about Good Charlotte's new album], and we say it sounds like something, and then there’s a news piece about what it sounds like, and it sounds completely different,” singer Joel Madden recently told MTV News. “But we’re trying to fill the void … Like, I think there’s a need for a new Blink-182 album, and they’re not working on an album. I’m a huge Blink-182 fan, but I think in general there’s a void there for music like that, and in this moment, we’re making a record that kind of answers to that void. We’ll see, though.”
Didn’t Good Charlotte sound like Blink-182 on their first two records? I wonder what era of Blink-182 they’re planning on emulating this time around, perhaps the pop-punk Enema of the State days or maybe the darker, more serious sounds of the self-titled record.
“I think we’ve matured a little bit, and it definitely changes things. You’re more mindful of what you’re saying, and the songs somehow become more important, because someone that you really love is going to be listening to them. I don’t know what it’s going to mean for our music, but it seems like it’s changed a little bit.”
I think that last statement answered my question … Blink-182′s 2003 self-titled record, which happens to be my second favorite, after Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.
And with all those rumors going around a possible Blink reunion, maybe the two bands could tour together!
While we wait for the new Good Charlotte record, a remix record will be out on November 25. Titled The Greatest Remixes, the record will feature songs from all four of Good Charlotte’s full-lengths and more than a few surprise guests twisting the knobs.
